Lexington ISD

Title I

Lexington is a Title I Schoolwide District. Title I is a supplementary academic program designed to help students who are performing below level in reading and/or math. Identified students are given additional instruction in these areas in an attempt to move them to grade level skills. Parent involvement is an integral part of the program.

The Title I, Part A program was first authorized in 1965 as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). It has been amended on several occasions and was reauthorized on October 20, 1994, under the improving America’s Schools Act of 1994.

The purpose of Title I, Part A is to help schools provide opportunities for all children to gain the knowledge and skills outlined in the challenging state content and performance standards. To accomplish this, Title I, Part A provides districts with funding for supplemental education programs.
