English as a Second language (ESL)
The English as a Second language (ESL) program is the appropriate English
Language Arts program for the student with limited English proficiency. The
program is provided for all students who are English limited in grades
Pre-Kindergarten through 12. The primary goals for the program is to enable
limited English proficient students to gain the academic skills of
comprehension, speaking, reading, and composition in the English language.
Subject matter and concepts are taught in the English language using ESL
methods with modifications of speech conforming to each student’s levels. The
American and primary cultures of students are incorporated into the programs to
emphasize the importance of cultural heritage.
